The Steyersberg Castle (Feste Steußberg) was probably built in the last third of the 12th century and was part of the line of fortifications that Duke Ottokar IV, the last Traungau, had built to protect Styria against Austria. Initially a fairly small complex that served as a place of defense and refuge, it was not until later that a remarkable structural expansion took place.
In 1600 Ehrenreich Wurmbrand-Stuppach acquired Steyersberg Castle, it is still owned by the Counts of Wurmbrand and is still in astonishingly good condition.
