The place was first identified as Hubfelde in invoices from the Reichenbach Office from 1383.
The construction of the small village church, which is worth seeing, began in 1510, but it took almost 82 years to build, so it was only inaugurated in 1592. The citizens of Hopfeld were intensively supported in financing by the landgraves (Philip I (Hesse) and William IV (Hesse-Kassel)). It has always been part of the parish of Reichenbach.
