The tiny Spanish Toll House along the towpath from Plassendale to Bruges was once the gateway to a sturdy 17th century fort. This guarded the old Plassendale lock. Guardhouse for Spanish soldiers; residence of the commander; toll office; inn; house of the lock masters. Now it is a resting place for cyclists. Only open from April to October, Saturday and Sunday.

The Spanish Toll House along the Jaagpad from Plassendale to Bruges was once the gateway to a sturdy 17th century fortress. This guarded the old lock of Plassendale. Guardroom for Spanish soldiers; residence of the commander; toll office; inn; house of the lock masters; a last port of call for old boatmen: the small monument on the waterfront has had many functions.
Now it is a resting point for cyclists, hikers and boaters.
