The observation tower Salingburg was built in 1906, as a replacement for Franzensbad missing historic buildings. The pseudo-Gothic building was intentionally reminiscent of a medieval castle, and its 'keep' served as an extremely popular lookout tower. Hiking

The lookout tower was supposedly built by the then chairman of the "Beautification Association", Gustav Wiedermann, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the first documented mention of the local springs. However, it is believed that the tower was related to Wiedermann's original intention to erect a monument to Goethe directly on the Kammerbühl (Komorní hůrka).
