The Moosheide is a circular nature reserve with a size of 442.72 ha, which is predominantly (281.83 ha) in Hövelhof in the district of Paderborn and the smaller part (160.89 ha) in Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock in the district Gütersloh. In the area are the seepage sources of the Ems. The area in the district Gütersloh was designated in 1974, the part in the district Paderborn in 2004 as a nature reserve. It serves to preserve a geomorphologically pronounced landscape of the Upper Senne with historically significant dune formations, sand-dry meadows, heaths, sparse pine forests, geologically significant dry and water-bearing gorge valley formations with springs, spring streams and wet meadows.

The Moosheide is located on the western edge of the military training area Senne, on the northern edge is the former main camp VI K (326), in which today the police school "Erich Klausener" is located. In addition to the Ems springs with the Holtebach another body of water within the Moosheide.

The existing sand dunes in the area are counted among the oldest in northwestern Germany, it is believed that they developed from the end of the Weichselian period, that is, beginning about 10,000 years ago. Reforestation, which took place in the mid-19th century, provides room for pine forests. Old juniper plants in the nature reserve bear witness to the original heath vegetation, which was typical of the region before afforestation.

Top trail corner. Very flat. Often rooted. Great to drive.
