Marian Kołodziej also designed the papal altar in Sopot, in 1999. The architectural design was prepared by Gdańsk architects: Małgorzata Kruszko-Szotyńska, Szczepan Szotyński and Leszek Zaleski. The altar will be located in the area of the Sopot horse race. The main element of the altar, and at the same time the background for the papal throne, was a cross and host made of resins mounted on aluminum structures, all 23 m high. Above the altar, the symbol of God in the Holy Trinity was dominant. The altar's composition was complemented by wooden sculptures and crosses made by folk artists according to the designs of Marian Kołodziej. The sacrificial altar, at which the Pope celebrated the mass, was placed at a height of about 8 meters above sea level. The creator of the altar concept also foresaw that the altar would be viewed from a bird's eye view by the Pope, therefore he designed it in such a way that it resembled a dove from above - a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Currently, the main part of the altar is in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Pregnancy in Gdańsk Matemblewo, and the cross with the image of the Holy Trinity in Sopot, at the place of that celebration.

A nicely landscaped place in the middle of the forest.
