The Golden Gate of Kiev (Ukrainian Золоті ворота Soloti worota) is a historic, fortified city gate in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.
The gate was built at the order of the Grand Prince of Kiev Yaroslav the Wise from 1017 to 1024. As a pattern served the Golden Gate of Constantinople. In 1240 it was damaged by Mongol troops of Batu Khan. The gate remained the main entrance to the city until the 18th century and is often used for ceremonial purposes.
In 1832, the remains of the gate were reconstructed. Further reconstruction work was carried out in the 1970s, while the new, reconstructed gate was built on the remains of the gate. The new gate, which houses a museum, was opened in 1982 on the occasion of the 1500th anniversary of Kiev.
