The bathing water quality is regularly monitored by independent organizations. The water is so clear that under favorable circumstances you can see to a depth of 5 m. The lake is also a popular fishing area due to its abundance of fish (pikeperch, pike, perch, eel, carp, roach and catfish). For a long time, the partially acidic pH value of the lake water was problematic. This is due to the gradual decomposition of overburden containing iron sulfide into sulfuric acid and sulfates. Due to the constant dilution with fresh water from the Black Elster, only a few places in the nature reserve and the so-called South Sea are affected. Senftenberger See has been a navigable body of water since November 2007 and can be driven on by motorized vehicles (max. 12 km / h).
