Already in the Middle Ages the land around the Desenberg belonged to Messrs Spiegel zum Desenberg. A descendant of this line, Friederich von Spiegel, received goods in Übelngönne an der Eggel in 1558. With his wife Elisabeth von Rottorp, he had a three-story, massive moated castle built in the Renaissance style; it was completed in 1596. Today only the hexagonal stair tower is preserved, the rest has fallen into disrepair or broken off. Around 1700 the estate was divided and shortly afterwards a second mansion was built on the other side of the Eggel. To distinguish between the new baroque manor house Oberübelngönne and the one with the moated castle Niederübelngönne was named. In 1929 the district of Warburg acquired Übelngönne, two larger farms and various part-time businesses were established.

Former moated castle of which only the pentagonal tower (in the middle of the farm) remains. Beautifully embedded in a valley. The farm is still in agricultural use, you can look around and not be chased away straight away.
