Tips

  • Beginnings in the colliery processing
In 1885/1886 the shaft of the Hilterberg colliery was sunk. [1] It had a depth of 63.92 meters. The shaft was connected to the Karlsstollen, built in 1872, in which Wealden coal was also mined. [2] Seam 3 (Schmalebank) and Seam 4 (Dickebank) were also mined on several levels. [3] The equipment included two steam boilers. At times, up to 213 miners were employed in the tunnels of the Hilterberg colliery.

  • The tunnel is located in the forest and is difficult to find because the paths are partially overgrown.
