Explanatory text on the memorial stone of the Alfter congregation from 1991, above a Star of David and the beginning of Psalm 91:
"Who lives in the shelter of the Most High
rests in the shadow of the Almighty "
"The Jewish cemetery in Alfter was first mentioned in 1719. The Jewish community of Alfter was probably at least a hundred years older. Today only the Jewish cemetery is a reminder of the Jews who used to live in Alfter. The Jewish community of Alfter was forcibly wiped out by the Nazi regime and has not existed since 1941.
The community took over the maintenance of this cemetery in 1949. She tries to keep the cemetery in accordance with Jewish customs. The cemetery has been a listed building since 1987.
The Jewish cemeteries are characterized by simplicity. The names and dates of the dead are given on the gravestones; special symbols can express the position of the dead in the community. There is seldom any other jewelry. The grave mounds overgrown with grass are typical.
The dead in memory, the living in reminder "

This Jewish cemetery impresses with its open layout. The tombstones document Jewish life in the villages on the Ville. A very quiet place. Right next door is the Friedensweg, which stimulates thoughts on overcoming violence and marginalization. A replica of the Brazilian "Christ Rex" rises above everything.

On the way to the Heimatblick between Alfter and Roisdorf, on the Hühnerbuschweg, is the Jewish cemetery, which is a listed building. First mentioned in a document in 1719, it was documented until 1938. 20 tombstones have survived to this day on the 700 square meter site: the oldest one that is still legible dates from 1861. In 1949, the municipality of Alfter took over the maintenance of the cemetery. The owner is the State Association of Jewish Communities in North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1987 the cemetery was entered in the list of monuments and restored in 2001 ... And no matter how small the cemetery may be, it also tells a piece of Alfter history.
