  • Dippoldiswalde Castle is located in the city center of Dippoldiswalde in the Eastern Ore Mountains, directly on the western edge of the city center on a mountain spur above the Weißeritztal.
The hill fort was built in the 12th century to protect mining and as an official seat in the Margraviate of Meißen. In 1266 a Knight of Clomen was mentioned as the owner and the town became a mountain town. The castle Böthchen, located in a north-westerly direction, belonged to the castle. In 1429 the Hussites destroyed the city, in 1485 the castle and the city fortifications were restored. Between 1500 and 1550 the castle was converted into a Renaissance palace by the builder Peter Flötner from Nuremberg. The southern wing with the central building and the two-storey bay window on the west side was built in 1569–1572. In the Thirty Years War, the castle and the city were also affected.
Today the Dippoldiswalde District Court, the Museum Osterzgebirgsgalerie [1] and, since August 2018, the Museum of Medieval Mining in the Ore Mountains are located in the castle.

  • The Museum of Medieval Mining in the Ore Mountains - MiBERZ for short - displays archaeological finds from the UNESCO World Heritage Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region in its exhibition rooms that are unique in Europe and provide an insight into the life and work of medieval miners above and below ground. The Mining Museum is located in Dippoldiswalde Castle, one of the most interesting monuments in the large district town of Dippoldiswalde. In six architecturally attractive, vaulted rooms, early technologies and equipment that were used in the mining and processing of silver ore are clearly explained. The rare exhibits, which are over 800 years old, impress with their excellent state of preservation. In addition, numerous media stations clearly show which underground mining worlds are hidden directly beneath our feet. With the help of VR glasses, you can also digitally mine some ores in the medieval mine yourself.
