Lacock Abbey was founded in the early 13th century by Ela, Countess of Salisbury, as a nunnery of the Augustinian order. It remained a nunnery until the suppression of Roman Catholic institutions in England in the 16th century. Today, it is looked after by the National Trust (paid entry/National Trust membership) and also houses the Fox Talbot museum of photography.
Some of the scenes in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets were filmed at Lacock.
Cafe with outdoor seating is free to public.

A great view of the abbey at Laycock. A place to gather thoughts (or energy) before the slog up Bowden Hill.
