The Schesa rises in the area of an accumulation and deposit of the Ice Age Ill glacier. The catchment area of this small and quiet stream has been used for alpine pasture and forestry since the Middle Ages. From 1804 there were repeated large mudslides on the slopes. During the First World War, a small diversion was built with the help of Russian prisoners (hence the “Russian Canal”). In just a few years, however, this had already been breached by slipping and was therefore ineffective. This water was then drawn further up with wooden gutters and channeled into the still intact canal above the breaks.Excerpt from epaper.neue.at/lokal/2017/06/21/murbruch-schesa-und-russenkanal.neue
