The Bagel paper mill was the only industrial enterprise of any importance in the area of the municipality of Eggerscheidt.
The mill has existed since 1786, 1789 got the owner of the mill, the Elberfelder paper trader Johann Bargmann the concession to operate a paper mill.

Despite continuous investment, the paper mill was no longer competitive and ceased operations in 1984.
Many different types of users have moved into the old factory buildings: galleries, studios, art workshops, a dance and gymnastics school, cosmetic and medical practices, small businesses and offices.
