Fragment from our hiking experiences Midweek Gaume

'The sun has broken through, looking for a nice idyllic picnic spot.

We are triggered by a monastic work from the Middle Ages 'La Vanne des Moines'.

We park at the edge of the forest near the road between Saint-Cécile and Herbeumont.

Through untouched nature, on a narrow forest road, we descend to the low dam of the monks. The Cistercian monks of the priory of Conques built this dam to fish in the river. Ideal place to enjoy our fried fish at the picnic table.

After a pleasant foot bath in the artificially constructed dam we return downstream with the Semois. The wide hiking trail narrows and gradually takes us to a higher level. Finally, we reach a place of popular devotions where Mary occupies the highest place and overlooks the meander of the Semois.

With her blessing we return along wider forest roads to our steel carriage.

It was a nice dessert walk.'
