A pearl among the art treasures of Lower Bavaria

This is how the little church in Berghofen is called. The most valuable treasures here are Gothic frescoes from around 1420. On the side walls of the choir room we see many individual depictions from the life of St. Peter.
The tower, with its Romanesque basement and thick walls, used to be a defensive tower. He served uncertain times. even if they couldn't keep their belongings safe in it, they at least saved their bare lives.

After the Battle of Gammelsdorf (1313), in which Bavaria fought against Austria, so-called consecration sites were built everywhere in the near and far vicinity of the battle site. At that time, the Berghofen fortified tower may have been expanded into such a place of consecration. The current shape of the Berghofener Kirchlein dates back to around 1400. The frescoes were uncovered in 1913, and the church was renovated in 1956. The church is dedicated to St. Peter and Paul.
