The Hennebique Canal in Bitsch near the north portal of the Simplon Tunnel in Brig is one of the oldest reinforced concrete structures (1898) of this type in Switzerland and in large parts still original. The canal conducted water to the power plant at the north portal, where it, converted into electricity, was used, among other things, to ventilate the jacking stole.
