There are already documents from 1345 of the existence of the Castle of Zwijnaarde.

In doing so, the borrower renounced his rights in favor of St. Peter's Abbey.

But as early as the 11-12th century, a Zwijnaarde capella was said to refer to this site.

The current castle dates from 1922, but is already the 4th known castle building on this site.

There used to be a jetty on the Scheldt and there was also a connection to the moat. You can still see a remnant of this on the towpath along the Scheldt in the form of an almost completely overgrown barrel-shaped vault.

According to a folk tale, this is supposed to be a secret passage that leads to St. Peter's Sabij, but that doesn't matter.
