The border hut is called that because it stands right on the border between two counties.
This is the border between the districts of Göttingen and Goslar.
Back when the hut was built, it was the border between the districts of Osterode and Goslar and that's what it still says on the refuge. Osterode was assigned to Göttingen in 2016, so it was a while ago 😉

This refuge was once exactly on the border between the district of Osterode and the district of Goslar. Therefore the name. But that's different now - it's no longer the district of Osterode, as it says on the wooden sign, but has been the district of Göttingen since November 1, 2016. But it doesn't matter, it's still a border hut between two districts and the sign will certainly be changed at some point.
