Renaturation of the Krickmeere has been in place for five years

It is what is known in modern German as a "win-win situation". Everyone involved has reason to celebrate. The renaturation of the Krickmeere in the Upjever Forest has become a success story that goes far beyond the forest. For about five years now, the Krickmeere have been restored to their original form as a moor. Representatives of the state forestry service, district administrator Sven Ambrosy and mayor Gerhard Böhling celebrated this on site.

When forester Carsten F. Streufert suggested restoring the moorland to its original state decades ago, it was initially dismissed as "nonsense". It would probably never have come to fruition if compensatory areas for construction projects had not been urgently sought. These compensatory areas could be used to finance such projects.
