    Hiking

Close to the Lancashire border with Yorkshire, Gisburn is a pretty village in the Ribble Valley. It has connections with English folklore: Guy of Gisburn, rival to Robin Hood, was said to have come from here.

It is a good base for exploring the Forest of Bowland AONB, as well as being within easy driving distance of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Accommodation wise, there's the 18th-century Whtie Bull Country Inn, which serves excellent food. There are also more luxurious lodgings at Ribblesdale Park.
