The Bastenakkers nature reserve is located between Wetteren and Melle in the valley area of the Scheldt. The area forms a corridor between the Kalkense Meersen and the Scheldt valley upstream towards Ghent.
From the Scheldedijk you have a beautiful view of the landscape. It consists of a mosaic of small bushes, ponds and meadows, partly surrounded by pollard willows. The fields are intersected with canals and agricultural roads. The area is a resting point for the fauna present.
