There are few things more enjoyable on a warm, sunny day than cycling along Barmouth's extraordinary bridge. Half the span is a railway line and the other is a shared foot and cycle path with wooden boards.

The bridge is the longest wooden viaduct in Wales and a Grade II-listed structure. It originally had a drawbridge, later replaced by a swingbridge, to allow tall ships to sail up the river. While the swingbridge is still in place, the tall ships stopped coming and so it's no longer used.

The bridge is free to cross but there is provision to accept donations since the toll ceased in 2013 so if you have change from your ice cream, maybe pop a few pennies in to keep this grand span going.

Wonderful way to enter Barmouth - a bit bumpy, but fine on a gravel bike.
