Castel Rinaldi, a picturesque hamlet of Massa Martana, dates back to 1161 and was built, according to tradition, by Duke Rinaldo of Calabria, later becoming part of the Arnolfi fiefdom. Fortified between the 14th and 15th centuries, it suffered attacks by the Ghibellines of Todi and damage caused by landslides in 1400, which reduced the structure. Today it maintains a medieval appearance with mighty walls, loopholes and commemorative plaques, despite various restorations.
