The Roches de Challes Passerelle was built in 1891. Since then, hikers in the area have enjoyed the opportunity to cross the Amel. From the transition you have a wonderful view of the river.

Beautiful, striking arched bridge built in 1891, which enables the Amel to be crossed at this point.

In 1889, the association "Stavelot Attractions" (the ancestor of the current OT), undertook to include Stavelot in modern tourism which was beginning to develop. This is how he traced and signaled the first walks. Two of them in particular were favored by visitors: that of the “Fonds de Challes” and that of the “Vieux Château”. But as these two routes were separated by the Amblève, which they ran along on either side, “Stavelot Attractions” decided to throw “a footbridge for pedestrians, opposite the Roches de Challes” over the river. The work was inaugurated in 1891 and, one hundred and twenty years later, it still offers the elegance of its 26-meter arch to the footsteps of walkers.
Today, therefore, having become a respectable heritage, the Passerelle des Roches de Challes still soars over the Amblève and illustrates a part of the history of tourism in the Pays de Stavelot. It is the image of his desire to maintain harmonious links between man and nature. Since 1979, its site has been protected with the classification by the Royal Commission of Monuments and Sites of the meanders of the river which run along the rocks of Challes. It is joined by an old path which comes from Warche and accompanies for a while the "GR 14" long-distance footpath, known as the "Sentier de l'Ardenne" leading to Paris, but also two walks from the Tourist Office: that of " La Truite” and that of… “La Passerelle” which faithfully follows the route of 1891 (the Tourist Office offers 28 pedestrian routes totaling some 250 km).
