Cellulose Attisholz AG was founded in 1881 and was the only cellulose factory in Switzerland at the time. In a troubled history, Attisholz took over 1983 also the German company Hakle, known for toilet paper, which has since been sold together with Tela to the large group Kimberly-Clark. For 2 years in the 2000s it was even owned by Christph Blocher.
The plant was finally closed in 2008.
In the next 20 - 30 years, it should gradually be developed into a lively and diverse district of the municipality of Riedholz with diverse forms of living, workplaces, services, sports and leisure uses, art and cultural offers and gastronomy - at least that is what the 'prospectus' says.
