The recreational area Lößnig-Dölitz was built between 1983 and 1988 on the mining use area of the 1959 decommissioned lignite mine Leipzig-Dölitz. The land was previously used for agriculture and, as a central component of the Lößnig-Dölitz landscape protection area, is today one of the largest recreational areas in the city of Leipzig. The recreation area is an important link in the course of the south-eastern green corridor, which extends from the historic allotment garden Johannistal over the Peace Park and Wilhelm-Külz-Park, the South Cemetery, the Markkleeberger Weinteichgraben area up to the mining landscape Espenhain. It offers its visitors a variety of uses. An extensive pedestrian and cycle network leads to the different adventure areas.

The water level in the pond has slowly recovered. Actually a nice place to stay, if only the drought from 2018 to 2020 hadn't been.
