On the edge of the Schwarzachtalwiesen behind the Franciscan monastery in Freystadt, bird life has been observed even more intensely since 2015. The seven meter high wooden construction allows a view over the nature reserve and over the Schwarzachtalaue with the stork meadows. The observation platform with a diameter of 4.80 meters can be climbed via an 80 centimeter wide spiral staircase inside the tower. The viewing platform is a steel construction that was manufactured by a metal construction company from Freystadt. The railing consists of vertical wooden strips, the roof is covered with shingles. You can get to the tower from the pilgrimage church via a short footpath / bike path along the Thundorfer Weihergraben. Sometimes the ditch also carries a lot of water, so that you can get wet feet at the underpass under State Road 2237. Then you have to make a small detour, follow the cycle path along the state road in the north-east direction, use the next underpass and then follow the signs to the tower.
