Torre della Finanza, in Lido di Volano, was built in the early eighteenth century to control access to the mouth of the Po di Volano, to collect tolls, but also for defensive purposes.
The work was commissioned by the papal government in an area slightly set back from the existing defenses until the mid-seventeenth century and destroyed by a storm surge.
The square-based tower has a partially underground floor with sloping external walls and was originally inserted inside a star-shaped embankment.
The name derives from the establishment in the tower of the Guardia di Finanza, who was the last tenant.
