The structures of the Fattoria Autonoma Babacchi were built towards the end of the 1950s and were mainly used for drying the tropical tobacco produced in the Città del Castello area. Decommissioned at the beginning of the Seventies, they were assigned to Alberto Burri shortly afterwards to be used as a laboratory for the creation of large-format works. Over the years, other spaces were recovered and in 1990 the Burri Museum was inaugurated in its current structure.

The former tobacco drying houses house part of the collection of works by the master Tifernate Alberto Burri.

The Ex Tobacco Seccatoi, inaugurated in 1990, located on the immediate outskirts of Città di Castello, constitute an exemplary recovery of industrial archeology carried out by Alberto Burri who imagined them as a suitable place to host his latest creations. 128 works created between 1974 and 1993 are exhibited there. Burri enters the Ex Seccatoi, as he did at Palazzo Albizzini, respectful of all the potential of this incredible space, combining it perfectly with his most recent works.
The enormous complex, which dates back to the immediate post-war period, was intended to collect the tobacco grown in the Upper Tiber Valley and fulfilled, in 1966, the noble task of hosting the volumes of the National Library, and of the Court of Florence after the flood, so that they are restored.
