The Monastery Forest

The Kloosterbos has everything to offer a typical Flemish Ardennes landscape. From large differences in relief and marked walks to fauna and flora to die for. The ideal Sunday afternoon activity for anyone who loves a fresh landscape and a firm ride on two legs.

Ecological Kingdom

The Kloosterbos is part of the Vossenhol nature reserve. Originally it was a beech-oak forest, now there are mainly poplars. In the southern part of the forest there is still a remnant of the beech and oak trees. The forest is an ecological kingdom with bloomers such as spotted lungwort, wood anemones and forest violets. Beautiful colors in spring!

Birds galore

This colorful flora makes the forest popular for a number of welcome guests. The extremely rare bullhead, brown trout and fire salamander are at home here. Birds breed around the rivers and streams. The kingfisher and the great yellow wagtail are present every year!

The charming Zwalm region

The forest is part of the larger reserve Middenloop Zwalm. The entire domain is rich in hiking nodes. Plan your own route or choose one of the ready-made walks from Natuurpunt. The red loop, also called the Vossenhol Walk, shows you the way through the Kloosterbos in 3.8 kilometers.
