Centuripe is a city that has its origins in the prehistoric period even if the official foundation is considered to be the work of the Sicilian population in the eighth century BC. Since then the city was always inhabited and experienced a period of particular development under Roman rule between the third and first centuries BC. Famous are the artistic ceramics of Centuripe, widespread in the Hellenic period first and then in the Roman one, thanks to their particular chromatic composition and refinement of the subjects. Many pieces can be found inside the archaeological museum even if many finds are found outside the territory and are part of collections of foreign museums.
The view enjoyed from Centuripe is so unique that Garibaldi, during his passage, called it "The balcony of Sicily". Especially towards the east Etna is clearly visible framed, on clear days, by the waters of the Mediterranean.

Centurie the star-shaped city ... with a beautiful view of Mount Etna

The patron saints of Centuripe are Santa Rosalia and San Prospero.
"September 16 is the date dedicated to Santa Rosalia, during which the statue of the martyr is carried in procession through the streets of the town.

On the 17th it is the turn of San Prospero who follows the same route while on the 18th the relics of San Prospero are taken first to the church of Sant'Agostino and then around the neighborhoods of Centuripe. Finally on the 19th the two statues were brought back inside the Mother Church"
