Between 500 and 750 AD, the first St. Martin's Church was probably founded in Söhnstetten.

The first written reference to a church and community in Söhnstetten comes from 1243. Unfortunately, there are no more traces of the church building at that time, as it was probably a fire in the 30 Years War (probably 1634), as well as the entire village Söhnstetten burned and was extinguished.

The resettlement of Söhnstetten begins in 1660 and 6 years later the church was rebuilt. By 1840, however, the church was threatened with decay.

Finally, in 1853, construction began on a new church that, according to government guidelines, should have space for 800 people. After 3 years, on May 25, 1856, the new Martinskirche was inaugurated with a big festival.
