The Red Lightning is legendary and if you want to go to the coast to Soller or vice versa to Palma, you should choose this type of transport - you can't travel more nostalgically.
The first locomotive used on the line (narrow-gauge railway - 914 mm track width) was the 020T locomotive, purchased from the construction company Luis Bovio. The seller of the locomotive, which was manufactured in England in 1891, was the Mallorcan railway company Ferrocarriles de Mallorca. From the operating company Ferrocarril de Soller S.A. Three steam locomotives manufactured by the Maquinista Terrestre y Maritima company were initially put into operation.

The first six trailers were delivered by the company Carde & Escoriaza. In 1913, a locomotive and another four wagons were added to the fleet.

The interior of the historic wooden wagons is constantly maintained and carefully restored. The leather-covered wooden benches are still very comfortable today and the old brass lights spread their cozy light in the 13 tunnels on the route.

Due to the heavy soot and smoke development during the tunnel journeys, the line from Palma to Soller was electrified in 1929 and the steam locomotives were replaced by railcars from Siemens Schuckert.
