An impressive construction of nature: the cron (or “tuff”) of Bonne Fontaine, named after the spring which generously supplies it during this season. It is one of the most beautiful in Belgium, rivaling those of Hastière and Buzenol.
The waters of the spring and adjacent seeps are loaded with
limestone. By going out into the open air and in contact with plants, they heat up and the limestone precipitates. As they die, plants leave their mark, which gives a porous rock called tuff and which, in certain parts of France, is used as a construction material.
