On the connecting road from Trenthorst to Ahrensfelde you drive through two districts of Wulmenau. The highlight described here, "Wulmenau", is located closer to Trenthorst. This place is now mostly referred to as the "Wulmenau Old School", but it used to be called the "Wulmenau Headquarters". About a kilometer further in the direction of Ahrensfelde is a second district, the actual "Gut Wulmenau".

The wealthy Hamburg merchant and oil manufacturer Friedrich Thörl was the owner of the Trenthorst-Wulmenau double estate from 1910 to 1928. He started a modernization that was unique for rural areas. He had an infrastructure center built between the two estates, which was henceforth referred to as the "central center". A power station for the electrical power supply was built, a water tower with a wind turbine and pumping station for the water supply, as well as new buildings for the forestry office, dairy and smithy. In 1912/13, a two-class school with an attached gymnasium and teacher's residence was built. The school was not closed until the early 1970s. The name "Old School" remained.
