The municipalities of Gorica and Nova Gorica have decided to give a very special sign to the entry into the European Union: not an ordinary monument, but a new common town square in front of the railway station.

By removing the border fence, the creation of a new city square means the connection and unification of the common space of the two cities beyond the state border.

The creation of a large round floor mosaic in the center of the town square created a common, extremely attractive urban ambience.
The motif of the mosaic was selected in an international art competition, its author is the Trieste artist Franko Vecchiet.
The mosaic is completed by two plaques - one on the Slovenian side, the other on the Italian side - with the inscription "mosaic of new Europe".
The square with the mosaic of the new Europe immediately became a new symbol of the community of the two cities of Gorica, a symbol of the abolition of demarcation and a symbol of the European.
