Lime roaster 'De Valk' is the only lime kiln in the Netherlands whose exterior is constructed of marl stone. It was built around 1933, as part of an employment project after the stock market power of 1929. In front of the lime kiln there used to be a railway line to the adjacent Nekami quarry (currently known as Groeve 't Rooth). The lime roasting plant closed around 1964. After the closure, the building slowly decayed.
The Cadier en Keer Nature Conservation Association has taken the initiative to restore the lime kiln. At her request, the Foundation for Conservation of Small Landscape Elements in Limburg (IKL) had the restoration of the lime-burning plant carried out in 2002/2003. The lime kiln is currently owned by the Limburg Landscape Foundation.
