Bäckerei Speck (near the tower) is a nice place for a mid-ride coffee-break :)

Below the clock face is the astronomical clock! One of the arrows also shows whether it is a leap year. In the middle of the 40-meter-high tower, the coats of arms of the old Swiss Confederation adorn the east façade. Over time, the people of Zug added jewelry to the Zytturm. After a lightning strike in 1863, for example, it received a new helmet with a gold-plated ball. The Zytturm used to form the fortified entrance to the old city and was part of the ring wall. It served as a watchtower, from where the guard looked for fire day and night and alerted the population with the fire horn in an emergency. In addition to the guard, the tower also had other temporary residents. Those who did not adhere to the strict city rules were held in the three prison cells, the so-called Timpis.*The Zytturm is under renovation until the end of 2024, after which it will appear in its new splendor. During this time the tower is not accessible to visitors.
