The imposing church was built at the behest of the Dominican order in the first three decades of the fifteenth century.
The works were carried out from 1399 to 1424, the year in which the body of the Blessed Margaret was moved inside the building two years after the solemn dedication.
Over the centuries, the church underwent numerous interventions, as evidenced by the external wall structure.
In 1724, on the occasion of the election as Pope of the Dominican Benedict XIII, the church underwent some interventions that gave it a heavy Baroque style; these superstructures were eliminated in the years 1912-1920 thanks to some works that brought to light numerous remains of frescoes.
