Hugelshofen was first mentioned in 1176 as Hugolteshouen. Originally the Bishop of Constance owned real estate in Hugelshofen. From the late Middle Ages until 1798 the village was a so-called high court, which was directly subordinate to the federal governor in Thurgau. [4] In 1381 a church is mentioned in Hugelshofen. After the attempts to become an independent parish failed, Hugelshofen ecclesiastically joined the Reformed Alterswilen in 1543, with which it is still connected today.
