The Catholic abbey and curacy church of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary on Fraueninsel in the municipality of Chiemsee in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim was probably built in the late 11th or early 12th century on Carolingian foundations from the 9th century. Since the 14th century, the church of the Benedictine monastery of Frauenwörth has also served as a place of worship for the island's inhabitants. The church, dedicated to the Presentation of the Virgin Mary to the Temple, is one of Bavaria's protected architectural monuments. In 1928 and 1961/62, Romanesque frescoes dating from around 1150 were discovered and re-excavated in the choir.

The Frauenchiemsee monastery church, founded in 782, is a worthwhile destination on the Fraueninsel in the Chiemsee. The relic of St. Irmgard should definitely be seen on a tour of the church. Can be found behind the main altar. The neat tower and the monastery grounds are also picturesque from the outside 🙂

This small church is located right next to the famous Augustinian monastery, also known as the "Island Cathedral". While the cathedral was only reserved for the Augustinian canons, this church was built for the laity of the monastery parish. It is built in the late Gothic style and was consecrated in 1469. It was rebuilt in the years 1630-32, and the early Baroque high altar (1632) and the coffered ceiling with panel paintings from the life of the Virgin can also be attributed to this period.

A baroque organ from 1668 is also housed in the church. The coat of arms of the provosts of the Augustinian monastery can be found on the facade.
