The so-called fortified church in Aschfeld is an impressive ensemble of buildings made up of the parish church and the numerous surrounding quarry stone masonry buildings that are now used as museums. The area is protected by a defensive wall and served as a refuge for the village population. After the defense purpose faded more and more into the background from the 17th century, many rooms were used for agricultural storage purposes and were thus preserved.
