Interesting display boards in the form of "time windows". Further information at dingdener-heide.com/zeitreise.

There are information boards about the Dingdener Heide in several places.

Looking through a "window of time" as it used to be?

On the approximately 6-kilometer circular route through the Dingdener Heide, you can take a look

throw through five time windows. There, the typical land use of each epoch is shown on an example area. The on-site information boards offer insights into the historical background, the maintenance of the sample areas and the wildlife of the heath, forest and meadow.

Forest marks of the Middle Ages 1320 - 1540

"The deciduous forests of the Dingdener Mark were used jointly by all farmers. They supplied wood and served as a grazing forest for cattle, goats and pigs.

The top layer of the forest floor was chopped off as bedding for the stables

(Plaggenhieb) and then ended up in the spring as fertilizer on the fields. Today

a new Hudewald developed on part of the Dingden Heath from forest and grassland. Year-round grazing by cattle helps."
