Born as Ludwig Karl August (born August 25, 1786 in Strasbourg; † February 29, 1868 in Nice), he was King of the Kingdom of Bavaria from the Wittelsbach family.
He succeeded his father Maximilian I on the Bavarian throne after his death in 1825 and abdicated in the revolutionary year of 1848 in favor of his son Maximilian II.
