Astronomer and Geodát designed the observatory on the Kleiner Seeberg.
This was built in 1787-1791 as the most modern astronomical observatory in Europe at the time.
It also served as the base point for the Thuringian triangulation network of the land survey, which was measured under his direction by Kühnemann, Count von Schmettau and Freiherr von Müffling from 1802 to 1806.
Dedicated to Zachs' 250th birthday in 2004

This stone pillar carried an astronomical clock from the former observatory.
