You can reach Senja via the Gisund Bridge from Finnsnes (mainland) to Silsand. Car ferries are available from Andenes to Gryllefjord (summer only), Brensholmen to Botnhamn and Harstad to Skrolsvik.
The fishing villages on the northwest coast (Husøy, Fjordgård, Senjahopen, Skaland) are partially connected only since the mid-1980s through tunnels to the road network.
