Once upon a time giant giants lived in the Harz. One of them named Bodo desired the beautiful princess Brunhilde. This rejected him, however.
One day Bodo was in the woods and met Brunhilde riding on her horse. The giant wanted to bring the princess into his power and chased them all over the mountains. He had almost caught up with them when a deep ravine opened in front of them. Brunhilde spurred her horse and jumped with him over the valley on the opposite rock. There the impact of the horse's hoof left a deep impression in the rock. Only the heavy golden crown lost the princess in her daredevil leap.
The rock later received the name "Roßtrappe", where even today the horseshoe imprint can be admired. The giant Bodo, however, was too heavy along with his horse and plunged into the water of the mountain river, which flowed down in the valley. This river has since been called "Bode" after the Giant. Transformed into a black dog, Bodo guards the crown of the princess in the crown of the crown there to this day. Many divers have since tried to recover this golden crown. No one has ever succeeded. The crown was always too heavy and it sank again in the floods. Who dived for the third time after the crown of the princess, was torn by Bodo in the depth, so that the water of the Bode colored red of the diver's blood.Source: Harzlife.de

Great view of the Bodetal. And you know why the space for our ancestors was something special.
