This old oak is the last witness of the hat forests of that time. At that time cattle, but mainly pigs, were kept on these so-called “forest pastures”, which fed on acorns and thus made an important contribution to food security in the Middle Ages. When the three-field economy became more important at some point and there was therefore sufficient fodder for the cattle, the hat forests lost their importance and gradually disappeared.
